There is one test every anniversary gift has to pass: will you still remember it in three years?
Dinner rarely passes it. Not because it is bad, but because it is the fiftieth one. The choice is safe, and that is exactly why it is forgotten.
So there are no restaurants here. Only things you do together and for the first time, an hour or two from Sofia.
First: how to choose
Before the list — three questions that prevent the wrong gift:
- What is the other person afraid of? Heights, water, speed, closed spaces. A gift that frightens one of you is a gift for one person.
- How much time do you really have? If Monday is a working day, a full-day trip is not romantic, it is exhausting.
- Does the season allow it? Half the ideas below do not work in November. Check before you pay.
1. A balloon flight
Around €250–350 for two, early in the morning, about an hour in the air. Beautiful and genuinely rare.
Not for: anyone afraid of heights. And for a couple with a narrow window — flights are postponed in wind, sometimes at the last minute.
2. A spa weekend
Velingrad, Hisarya, Bansko — from €150 for two with an overnight stay.
Not for: a couple that already goes to a spa twice a year. Then it is not a gift, just another weekend with a bigger bill.
3. A cooking class for two
€60–100 for two, about three hours, in Sofia.
Not for: someone who cooks every day. For them it is work in an apron.
4. Wine tasting at a cellar
Melnik, Damianitza, Dragomir — €50–90 for two including the tour.
Not for: a couple without a designated driver. It is also a seated programme — it works well after something active, but weakly on its own.
5. A night in an unusual place
A treehouse, a yurt, an observatory. From €80 per night.
Not for: someone who sleeps badly outside their own bed. The romance ends at three in the morning.
6. A photo session for two
€100–200 for an hour or two. The only gift on this list that leaves something on the wall.
Not for: someone who freezes in front of a camera. Then you get an hour of discomfort and photos nobody looks at.
7. An electric motorbike tour at sunset
We are biased here, so only the facts. The Vratsa Balkan is 90 minutes from Sofia. The Night Ride tour starts in the early evening and returns after dark. It lasts two hours, and everyone rides their own bike — there is no passenger seat. The bikes are electric: no clutch, no gears. Most people who get on them with us are doing it for the first time.
€69 per person, so €138 for two.
Not for: someone who does not want to steer anything. The point is that both of you ride.
Why it works for an anniversary: it is new for almost everyone, it fits into a single afternoon, and it does not require you to find something to talk about. After the tour you get a gallery of photos from the route — a few are free, and the full set in high resolution is unlocked for an extra fee.

If it is a surprise, do not fix the date
The most common mistake with an experience gift is a fixed date. You buy it for 14 February, and on 14 February the other person has plans, it rains, or it is simply not their day.
