If you are the best man, you know the feeling. A group chat with twelve people, three of them answer, and eventually someone suggests "let's just go to a pub". The pub is a fine way to end the day. It is not a plan.
This text is about the first half of the day — the part people talk about afterwards. Five options an hour or two from Sofia, with prices and with the honest downside of each.
What makes a stag do stick
The ones people remember meet four conditions:
- everyone does it together — not two playing while ten watch;
- nobody has done it before — the familiar does not turn into a story;
- there are photos — with no photos, the next day it is as if it never happened;
- it ends early — a plan that eats the evening usually ruins the evening.
Keep those four in mind as you read on.
1. Karting
Around €15–20 per person for a few heats. Several tracks around Sofia, booked in five minutes.
The downside: it lasts an hour, almost everyone has done it, and the photos look like every other karting party. It works better as an add-on than as the main event.
2. Rafting
On the Struma or the Iskar, around €30–45 per person. Shared, wet and genuinely memorable.
The downside: it depends on the season. Outside April–June the water is often low, and in August the run can turn out to be a calm float instead of an adventure. If the wedding is in September, cross it off.
3. Paintball or airsoft
Around €20–30 per person. Works all year and suits large groups, because it is played in teams.
The downside: bruises. This is not a joke — a groom who shows up at his wedding a week later with a purple shoulder will not thank you. If the wedding is close, think twice.
4. Beer or rakia tasting
Craft breweries around Sofia take groups for €15–25 per person. Pleasant, and it gets people talking.
The downside: it is a seated programme. If the group does not know each other well, a tasting does not bring them together — it just distributes them across tables.
5. An electric motorbike tour
We are biased here, so only the facts. The Vratsa Balkan is 90 minutes from Sofia. The tour takes two to three hours including the briefing. Everyone rides their own bike — there is no passenger seat. The bikes are electric: no clutch, no gears, so no experience is needed. Most people who get on them with us are doing it for the first time.
Prices start at €51 per person for the shortest route (one hour). The most popular one for groups is "In Botev's Footsteps" — 2.5 hours, €76 per person. With 6 or more people the hero of the day rides for free, and a group discount applies on top of that. So the final bill is lower than the plain multiplication — the exact figure comes with the quote.
The honest downside: zero alcohol before riding. No exceptions, no "just one beer". That is why the tour belongs at the start of the day, not at the end.
The upside: it meets all four conditions above. Everyone rides, almost nobody has done it, and by late afternoon the group is free for the rest of the programme. If you want video, a GoPro on the helmet is added at booking for €15.

How to organise it without losing your mind
- Ask about the date 3–4 weeks ahead. Saturdays in May, June and September fill up first everywhere.
- Get an exact head count, not "about ten". Everything is priced per person and the difference between 8 and 12 is real.
- Collect the money before the day. Twelve people paying on site are twelve minutes you will not get back.
- Check the restrictions. Age, weight, health conditions — better now than on site.
- Plan the transport too. If there is alcohol in the evening, the driver is decided in the morning, not at 10 pm.
The combination that works
If you have a full day: adventure until noon, lunch outdoors, a tasting or a pub in the afternoon, dinner in the evening. The active part goes first, while everyone is fresh and sober. The social part follows. The reverse order does not work, however logical it looks in the chat.
